What's actually on the syllabus

The KCET syllabus is drawn entirely from the 1st and 2nd PUC curriculum set by Karnataka's Department of Pre-University Education — nothing beyond what's already in your PUC textbooks. Engineering aspirants need Physics, Chemistry and Maths; Pharmacy, Agriculture, Veterinary and allied courses need Physics, Chemistry and Biology instead of Maths.

Syllabus content is periodically revised by KEA. Always cross-check the current year's official syllabus PDF at cetonline.karnataka.gov.in before finalising your preparation.

Which chapters actually carry the most weight

KEA does not publish an official chapter-wise weightage. The breakdown below is estimated from analysis of past KCET papers, so treat it as a prioritisation guide, not a guarantee.

SubjectConsistently high-weightage chapters
PhysicsCurrent Electricity, Gravitation, Thermodynamics, Motion in a Straight Line, Oscillations, Magnetism & Matter, Electromagnetic Induction
ChemistryOrganic Chemistry, p-Block Elements, Coordination Compounds, Electrochemistry, Solutions
MathematicsCalculus — Integrals, Continuity & Differentiability, Applications of Derivatives — plus Matrices, Vectors & 3D Geometry, Probability
BiologyGenetics & Evolution, Human Physiology, Human Reproduction, Ecology & Environment, Biotechnology

Where to actually get real KCET papers

KEA releases the official question paper and answer key after each year's exam concludes. Working through the last 5–10 years is one of the highest-value things you can do — it shows how KEA actually phrases questions.

Reading the syllabus isn't the same as testing yourself against it

A useful mock follows the KCET format: 80 minutes per subject, 60 questions, no negative marking, with your final rank built 50:50 from KCET score and normalised PUC marks.
